In the 2020 model year, the Toyota Prius gets some updates to its safety system and its technology. This year, all trim levels are equipped with some degree of advanced safety technology. Every Prius now gets Toyota's progressive Safety Connect system, along with the Toyota Safety Sense package of advanced drive-assist amenities that includes forward collision avoidance, lane-change alert, lane departure warning, and more. Additional safety technologies are included or optional on the higher-level trims. The advanced trims also get sonar-assist parking sensors.
Along with the extended safety features, the 2020 Toyota Prius gets some refreshments to its technology system. Now, all trims are wired with a seven-inch infotainment display screen that has Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and smartphone integration. The Prius's infotainment system now supports Amazon Alexa, too. The Prius still has an exceptionally large windshield that allows for maximal outward visibility. Its cabin is quiet and enjoyable, while its responsive handling system makes it fun to drive on all roadways. The Prius comes standard or available with an all-wheel-drive to facilitate driving in a range of conditions.
Toyota offers the 2020 Prius in six unique trim levels. Two, the LE with all-wheel drive and the XLE with all-wheel drive, are variations on other standard trims. The base trim is called the L Eco. It is designed to reduce fuel consumption with additional measures such as a lighter-weight hybrid battery. The base trim includes the new seven-inch display screen with Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay support. This trim level also gets a variety of advanced safety features, including Toyota's Safety Sense package with lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision avoidance.
The LE, which is the second trim level, has just under 25 feet of cargo space. It is equipped with additional safety amenities, including rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. The LE gets intelligent parking assist sensors as well. The XLE has slightly larger 17-inch wheels. It also gets heated front seats with multi-way adjustable capabilities. Rain-sensing wipers, a wireless charging pad, and smart-key entry are other standard amenities.
The Limited gets auto-leveling adaptive front headlights and a larger 11.6-inch infotainment system with navigation, a color display, and a head-up design. The all-wheel-drive LE gets integrated fog lights and accent lighting. The all-wheel-drive XLE has wireless charging, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel.
All six trim levels of the Toyota Prius have the same engine configuration in 2020. They all have electric motors that provide additional power and help conserve fuel consumption. The Prius also has a 1.8L four-cylinder gasoline engine. Together, the engine and motors produce just over 120 HP. All Prius trims have an automatic transmission.
The Prius comes standard with many safety features to earn a five-star crash test rating from the NHTSA. This includes advanced dual-stage airbags, seat belts, and active safety features such as forward collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change alert, lane-keep assist, emergency braking, and even sonar-assist parking sensors.
