If you are a sports car aficionado or an active reader of auto news, you’ve probably heard a thing or two about the end of the Scion era. Rebranding as new Toyota cars, some of the brand favorites are back and better than ever, including the new Toyota 86, a model hailed as a “fundamental, affordable rear-drive sports car.” Formerly known as the Scion FR-S, the 86’s metamorphosis results in a bolder look, new gadgets and better-than-ever performance. Here are some of the coolest features this sports car has to offer.

Top-of-the-Line Performance

Listen to the 86 rev its engine and you'll know right away that the sports car was built to perform. The 2.0 aluminum boxer engine delivers 200-205 horsepower, and features a 12:5:1 compression ratio and 86mm x 86 mm bore and stroke dimensions. Not only is the light and agile 86 highly responsive, but it also brags a purely sports car platform with MacPherson strut front suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension. In fact, the 86’s dynamics are largely based off of previous GT models, which have a legacy of doing well in the racing scene.

The 86’s Vehicle Stability Control can be switched into track mode or turned off completely. There are two transmission options, the six-speed manual and six-speed automatic with paddle shifters, Sport mode and Dynamic Rev Management. Both perform tremendously on the road and on the track.

Fierce New Look

The 86 has a whole lot of attitude packed in to a compact, rear-drive two-door coupe. For 2017, Toyota amps up the styling most notably with a larger center intake, LED headlamps and taillamps, new bumper designs on the front and rear, and a new twisted spoke wheel design. The 86 namesake logo is incorporated both on the front fender and inside the headlamps.

Jam Out to the Tune of Great Tech

Great sports cars deserve great convenient features to match! The 86 comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen display with built-in Bluetooth, HD Radio, and both auxiliary and USB inputs. The 8-speaker Pioneer audio system transforms the 86 into a personal music venue. There aren't many things better than a fun drive paired to great music.

The 2017 Toyota 86 is set to be released this fall. For more information on the Scion transition or to learn about any of our other great models, visit Village Pointe Toyota in Omaha today!
