How to Engage & Release Toyota Steering Wheel Lock?

Steering Wheel Lock

In your new Toyota vehicle there are a number of different features that are designed to keep you safe as well as your vehicle. One such feature is a steering lock system. This will prevent your steering wheel from being able to turn under a number of different conditions. When your ignition is off, your electronic key is not in the vehicle and you try to turn the wheel, the steering will become locked and not move. This safety precaution is designed to keep your front wheels in place while the vehicle is off. This can protect your vehicle’s suspension and other components. Let’s take a closer look at how this feature works, and how you can engage and release the Toyota steering wheel lock:

  • First you will want to press down the start / stop button at the location of your ignition.
  • Turn the steering wheel to the left and then to the right. Do this just slightly. Don’t try to forcefully make a movement.
  • At this point the wheel should be released. If it is not, do not force the wheel. Try again from the beginning step.
  • Many different models of Toyota vehicles will flash green at the ignition point if the lock is not released.
