Each year, Cars.com puts their Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians to work testing new car models on their child safety seat friendliness. Not only did the 2016 Toyota RAV4 make the cut, it also took home top honors.
It’s hard to make honor roll—out of 84 cars tested this year, only six made the list. However, it’s no surprise that the RAV4 got the highest accolade. This family-friendly crossover SUV has a reputation for its easy-to-use Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system. Combine that with its incredibly spacious backseat, and the RAV4 is an excellent choice for families with infants and small children.
The 2016 Toyota RAV4’s achievement reflects the automaker’s hard work in improving this area of safety. Toyota’s expert team of designers and engineers have been developing new ways to make child safety seat mounts easy to access and use.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into making installation of child safety seats easier, and we’re glad to see that it’s working,” said Jennifer Pelky, senior safety engineer at Toyota’s North American R&D Headquarters. “I have two young boys myself, and child passenger safety is of the utmost importance to me, both as a mother and an engineering professional that has an active role in LATCH development on Toyota vehicles.”
