The holidays come but once a year, but when they come they bring good cheer—especially if you live in Omaha! Make the most out of the yuletide season, and fill your calendar with some of the best and brightest events our town has to offer.
Christmas at Union Station – The Durham Museum
There’s no place like the Durham Museum for the holidays, and people from all over the region make the trip for a hearty dose of Christmas cheer—and to get a glimpse of the legendary 40-foot-tall tree! From now until Jan. 1, 2017, you and your kin can experience these wintertime activities and more:
- Ethnic Trees Exhibit
- Holiday Concert Series
- Family Nights With Santa
- Noon Year’s Eve Party
All activities are included with museum admission, which remains at $11 for adults, $7 for kiddos (3-12), and free for tots (2 and under).
Holiday Poinsettia Show – Lauritzen Gardens
If you love poinsettias, then you won’t want to miss out on this wondrous show dedicated to the festive flower. Thousands of poinsettias of different varieties and colors deck the halls of the Marjorie K. Daugherty Conservatory, accompanied by sparkling white lights, ornaments and model trains. There’s even a 20-foot-tall “tree” constructed out of poinsettias.
On select dates, the conservatory gets even more merry and bright with the Holiday Poinsettia Show Aglow. Shimmering trees and magical falling snowflakes will instantly transport you to a winter wonderland, and a crackling fire and warm treats available from the café make the garden one of the coziest places to be this season. Even Santa Claus stops by some evenings to enjoy the good will and cheer inspired by the beautiful poinsettia display.
The Holiday Poinsettia Show is open daily until Jan. 4, 2017, and is included with admission. Ticket prices for the Gardens starts at $10 for adults, $5 for children (6-12), and free for little ones 5 and under.
Winter Laser Shows – Mueller Planetarium
You may have seen some holiday lights this season, but have you seen holiday lasers? The Winter Holiday Laser Adventure at the Mueller Planetarium is a unique way to make memories this season. Both children and adults alike will be mesmerized by the bright colors and festive music.
The laser show is here for a short time, so be sure to catch it before it’s over! It plays Dec. 9-10 and Dec. 16-17 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., as well as Dec. 11 and Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets start at $6 for adults and kids both.
